Virginia Gold Cup
Great Meadow, The Plains..... Gates open at 10am, first race starts 1pm
The Virginia Gold Cup is a grand spring tradition as welll as a fixture on the
social
calendar. Run in Fauquier County since 1922 and attended by over 45,000
spectators,
this race is one of the largest and most popular sporting events in the
greater
Washington metropolitan area. Race day features seven hurdle and timber
horses
races, Jack Russell Terrier races, tent, tailgate and hat contest, a parachute
demonstration, and over 30 vendor booths for shopping. $

The Blue and Gray Ball
Inn at Kelly's Ford..... doors open at 4:30pm

Join us as we celebrate history. Come properly dressed in your blues or grays,
period military, period civilian, or black tie for the gentlemen; and period attire or
evening dress for the ladies. The fun begins at 4:30pm with a reception, and
demonstration by The Black Horse Cavalry. Dinner at 6:30pm followed by
dancing
at 8pm.

Delaplane Strawberry Festival
Sky Meadows State Park, Delaplane..... 10am - 5pm
Held in Sky Meadows State Park, in the heart of Virginia's beautiful hunt country,
the festival is only an hour's drive from Washington DC. A weekend of family fun,
featuring local crafters, children's games, hayrides, live entertainment, a raffle,
an old-fashioned bake sale, antique cars, petting zoo, fresh strawberries, and
more.
Events include 5K Run/Walk, Strawberry Pie and Jam Contest, and the first-ever
National Strawberry Eating Championship! Proceeds from the festival are used to
fund the ministries and outreach programs of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Delaplane.

Confederate Memorial Service
Warrenton Cemetery..... 2pm
Located in Old Town Warrenton
Each year in May, on the Sunday preceeding the observed Memorial Day Monday,
the Confederate Memorial Service is held. It is sponsored jointly by the Black Horse
Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Black Horse Camp of
the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The ceremony is held in close proximity to the
"To Name The Fallen" monument.
Buried in the Warrenton Cemetery are
close to
900 Confederate soldiers.
