Bristersburg is a well-preserved historic village and was once an important commercial center in souther Fauquier, with numerous stores and businesses.  During the Colonial Era and through the 1820s the village thrived as a major trading center along a major stagecoach road from Fredericksburg to Winchester.

There are eleven distinctive historic structures that contribute to the historic character of the village.  These buildings demonstrate a ranges of architectural styles.
